The Government will invest a further $37 million to redevelop four schools in Auckland, Wellington and Gore, Education Minister Erica Stanford has announced. Work is expected to begin within the next 12 months.

The projects are a new administration block at Lynfield College in Auckland; 10 replacement classrooms, a library and resource space at Whenuapai School in Auckland; classroom interior upgrades at Tawa College in Wellington; and 14 replacement classrooms at Māruawai College in Gore as stage two of its redevelopment.

Up to $3 million is also being made available to ease property pressure and expand capacity at Kōhanga Reo, with Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust and the Ministry of Education to decide where it is most needed.

The minister attributed the programme to simpler, repeatable designs and offsite manufacturing, saying most new classrooms now cost under $650,000 and more than $330 million in savings has been reinvested in school property.

For the four school communities, the announcement provides a timeline after waiting on property decisions.
